Receiving your invitation to the Irish Citizenship Ceremony is a moment of pride, joy, and reflection. For many, it marks the end of a long journey—and the beginning of a new chapter as an Irish citizen. If you’re preparing to attend the upcoming ceremonies here’s what you can expect.
First, Congratulations! Becoming an Irish citizen is no small feat. Whether your path involved years of work, family life, or personal growth in Ireland, this ceremony is a celebration of your commitment and contribution to the nation.
When you arrive at the venue, head to the registration desk to check in. Be sure to bring:
– Your passport or driver’s licence as photo ID.
– If you’re a Non-EEA national, your valid IRP card is also required.
The ceremony is presided over by a judge, often attended by a government minister, and may last a couple of hours. Press and photographers are usually present, so it’s a good idea to dress smartly.
The highlight of the event is the Declaration of Fidelity, which you’ll recite collectively with fellow candidates:
“I (your name), having applied to the Minister for Justice for a certificate of naturalisation, hereby solemnly declare my fidelity to the Irish nation and my loyalty to the State.
I undertake to faithfully observe the laws of the State and to respect its democratic values.”
No need to memorise the declaration—you’ll be given the words on the day.
Just remember; you officially become an Irish citizen once you take the oath. That’s the defining moment!
Your Certificate of Naturalisation will be sent by registered post, typically within 4 to 6 weeks. Once received, you can apply for your Irish passport and fully embrace your new status.
