This is one of the questions I hear often from HR teams and Hiring Managers when they’re considering a non‑EEA candidate.
The short answer is yes — but with important distinctions.
There are two different types of Stamp 1G permissions, and each comes with its own conditions:
Stamp 1G – Third Level Graduate Programme
This permission is granted to non‑EEA graduates who have completed a degree or Master’s degree in Ireland.
- Allows full‑time work for 12 months
- Master’s graduates may renew for an additional 12 months
- To continue working after the Stamp 1G expires, the graduate will need an employer to sponsor an employment permit
Stamp 1G – Family Members of Employment Permit Holders
This permission is granted to eligible non‑EEA family members of Employment Permit holders.
- Allows full‑time work
- Must be renewed annually
- The permission is directly tied to the Employment Permit holder; if the relationship ends, the Stamp 1G holder loses the right to work
- To maintain their ability to work, they must secure an independent employment permit
Understanding these distinctions helps employers make informed, compliant hiring decisions.
